ABDOMINOPLASTY
THE IDEAL SURGERY TO RESTORE TRACTION, SLIM AND SMOOTH ABDOMEN PROFILE
ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN
The ideal procedure to restore traction, slim and smooth profiles of the abdomen by eliminating imperfections such as folds and ripples of the skin or even, in more accentuated cases, a real apron covering the pubic region, is abdominoplasty.
In both men and women, the abdomen is subject to numerous aesthetic problems. An unbalanced lifestyle with sudden weight changes, drastic weight-loss diets or pregnancies stress the skin tissue so much that it loses elasticity and tone until it becomes flabby
or folded in on itself; the abdominal muscles also sometimes aggravate the cosmetic picture, during pregnancy, for example, they undergo excessive traction by greatly straining the center of their abdominal insertion (linea alba) and undergoing, in this way, a kind of estrangement that hardly returns to the correct position at the end (diastasis of the rectus muscles)
Abdominoplasty corrects all these defects.

ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: WHAT IS IT FOR?
Abdominoplasty surgery is performed to remove excess integument (skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue) that can produce obvious blemishes; abdominoplasty surgery also corrects the fat and sagging abdomen.
The surgical technique of abdominoplasty involves the removal of fatty tissue and excess abdominal skin to achieve a flat, firmed abdomen that is tight at the waist. Many patients also have sagging muscle structure that must be corrected concurrently to prevent future abdominal and umbilical hernias.
ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: WHO IS IT RECOMMENDED FOR
Abdominoplasty surgery is performed on patients with adipose skin condition and excessively relaxed stomach muscles. Abdominoplasty is particularly indicated in men who have:
- excess adipose tissue with loose and sagging skin (adipose abdomen)
- sagging muscle tissue due to heavy weight loss
- enlarged, flabby and misshapen navel due to redundant skin and excess adipose tissue
- sharp and obvious sagging of the skin component (soft and sagging abdomen)
- great difficulty in pleasing oneself in front of the mirror
- ambition toward increased self-esteem
ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: IF THE ABDOMEN IS SAGGING
Causes such as aging, senile decay, or excessive sun exposure could result in stretching of the abdominal tissue, such that its tone and elasticity are compromised. Abdominoplasty surgery is the only solution to reshape an overly sagging abdomen. Techniques such as creams, ultrasound, shock waves etc, would not have the same results.
ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: IF THE ABDOMEN IS ADIPOSE
A man’s abdomen typically has a hard, inactive conformation and is therefore less prone to changes, due to a different metabolism than in women. In men, the lipostructure of the abdomen and muscles is also performed. If the abdomen is poorly toned, it will be necessary to proceed with the elimination of fat subcutaneous in order to achieve an effective result.
ABDOMINOPLASTY MAN – SURGICAL TECHNIQUE
The surgeon performs an initial anesthetic phase on the fatty tissue in order to prevent any bleeding in the area to be treated and allow the doctor to work in a gentle manner by removing as much fat as possible. The anesthesia introduced is a vasoconstrictor (adrenaline) that reduces bleeding during the abdominoplasty surgery.

ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: THE SECOND PHASE
Abdominoplasty surgery involves two incisions:
- The first is from the pubis to the iliac spines;
- The second is subcutaneous, therefore invisible, which results in the dissection of the entire abdominal region.
It is a very specific technique, because it is nothing more than a liposuction procedure aimed at removing excess fatty tissue.
Dr. Mattia Colli is one of the few doctors who adopt this type of abdominoplasty surgery (putting the abdomen in traction to obtain a smooth profile) at the end of which the surgeon switches to hemostasis so as to avoid any bleeding and proceed to suturing; making sure that the scar is almost invisible. Suturing is done through surgical threads that provide traction so that the patient’s expectations are met and the desired results are achieved.
ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: PREPARATION
FOR THE INTERVENTION
Before undergoing abdominoplasty surgery, it will be the concern of the Surgeon, to prescribe ECG blood tests at the first visit, during which the patient should inform the Physician of any treatment of medications such as blood-thinning anti-inflammatory drugs and discontinue them, at least 7-10 days before the abdominoplasty surgery. It is, likewise, recommended to stop smoking, if the patient is a smoker, as smoking would cause excessive vascularization of the arteries.

During the medical history, the surgeon may prescribe additional tests such as abdominal CT scans or abdominal ultrasound scans if the patient has manifested any health problems or symptoms worthy of attention.
Through the use of these images it is indeed possible to obtain from the medical surgeon a fully personalized course of postoperative therapy.

ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: THE HEALING PHASE
Immediately after abdominoplasty surgery, the patient moves into the healing phase. Thanks to new regenerative medical techniques, there is less likelihood of keloid attacks that result in a danger to the normal course of healing. Thus an almost completely invisible scar is achieved, making true the expectations of clients who undergo abdominoplasty surgery.
Dr. Mattia Colli takes care at all stages of the surgery process, minimizing scarring both at the iliac crests and in the inguinal region.
Abdominoplasty surgery on a male patient lasts 50 to 60 minutes, at the end of which the patient will undergo medical care such as girdles that must be worn for 10 days, according to the indication of the Surgeon.
ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: ANESTHESIA
Abdominoplasty surgery in men is performed under local anesthesia and intravenous anesthesia. The choice not to perform full anesthesia, preserves the patient, from the relative dangers. Local anesthesia is introduced through a vasoconstrictor, which determines its effectiveness, both in terms of pain and bleeding in the areas to be treated.
The advantage of choosing local anesthesia is the immediate return to social life: in fact, the feeling of fatigue or dizziness that occurs following a very common general anesthesia.
Full anesthesia will be prescribed by the Surgeon only if muscle reconstruction of the abdomen is required, which involves deeper work, at the muscular level and for that reason, requires anesthesia that involves the patient in entirety.

ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: POSTOPERATIVE PERIOD
Following abdominoplasty surgery, the patient’s appearance is immediately well pulled and firm. The postoperative period is very delicate: the treated area, in fact, must not be subjected to strain of any kind, and under no circumstances should the sutures be stretched. It will be the Surgeon’s concern to indicate a posture appropriate and medicate the patient for the first 10 days following abdominoplasty surgery.
In case of swelling in the treated area, the patient should not despair, because it is absolutely normal, especially at the level of the pubis and along the scars.
ABDOMINOPLASTY – MAN: RESULT
Already after the second week after the abdominoplasty procedure, the patient will regain a harmonious appearance, less swelling and with extraordinarily results.
Finally, the patient will be able to enjoy a slimmer appearance due to a perfectly flat abdomen. The goal is for the patient to regain enough self-confidence to increase his degree of self-esteem, thanks to a rejuvenation of his original appearance.
The scar remains inside the undergarments, so that the patient will be able to flaunt a new appearance and show it off to everyone.
Abdominoplasty is a procedure from which excellent results are obtained in terms of aesthetics, but it is clear that it cannot be a valid substitute for a proper lifestyle and a healthy diet. Remember that these factors, along with an absence of the variation in body weight, are a good way to maintain the results obtained from the abdominoplasty procedure.
