BLEPHAROPLASTY

AESTHETIC EYELID SURGERY

ELIMINATE EXCESS SKIN TO REJUVENATE THE EYES

The eyes constitute one of the most qualifying expressive components of the face. The excesses of the skin that with advancing age reduce its opening and the bags that are formed in the lower portion disturb the aesthetics and the natural expressiveness linked to the eyes.

Blepharoplasty is the cosmetic surgery dedicated to the correction of eye imperfections, eliminating excess skin, permanently removing annoying bags and pulling any laxity or sagging of the eyelids. The goal of blepharoplasty is to rejuvenate the upper and lower eyelid respecting the personal somatic characteristics of the face and the naturalness of facial mimicry.

Dr. Mattia Colli performs hundreds of types of blepharoplasty operations a year, with the main objective of respecting the harmony and expressiveness of the patient’s face; the blepharoplasty that is performed, follows the modern techniques of surgery that involve the masking of the scar inside the natural fold of the upper eyelid; unless the surgical indication requires a removal of a certain magnitude, incisions that come out of the fold of the eye are not made, unless the surgical indication requires a removal of a certain magnitude.

Blepharoplasty surgery gives a fresh, open and youthful appearance of the eyes and face; the patient’s perception of their own facial image allows to increase self-confidence and self-esteem.

Dr. Mattia Colli performs blepharoplasty cosmetic surgery following a high quality operating program that allows to guarantee maximum safety, minimizing scars and leading to admirable results.

The achievement of expectations is the result of the relationship that the Surgeon and the patient establish from the first visit: Dr. Mattia Colli plans interventions with reliable and real results; in the event of not being able to promise the desired result with the simple blepharoplasty surgery, the surgeon will reserve the right to resort to the help of additional techniques to achieve the goal: for example, accentuated sagging of the eyebrow portion must be corrected with an eyebrow lift or a temporal facelift.

The satisfaction and appreciation for the results obtained is constantly monitored even in the years following the blepharoplasty surgery. Having patient testimonials on their experience and their satisfaction is what makes Dr. Mattia Colli, a doctor with whom you can deal directly to clarify any doubts and motivations.

The patients, who meet Dr. Mattia Colli, come from all over the world. To reduce waiting times you can get an online consultation. An online consultation will give the patient the opportunity to meet the surgeon and establish the confidence needed for a successful surgical intervention.

BLEPHAROPLASTY – AESTHETIC EYE SURGERY

WHY CHOOSE DR. MATTIA COLLI

The eyelid region can present different imperfections that are improved and corrected with the intervention of blepharoplasty: they affect the upper eyelid more frequently in the form of skin excesses that determine folds that can cover the entire eyelid, sometimes beyond the ciliary edge, limiting the visual field in the most severe cases. These skin excesses, in the lower eyelid, are represented by wrinkles, often with an oblique course, which can form real festoons, also known as under eye bags. Other eyelid imperfections are represented by the adipose “bags” determined both at the level of the upper and lower eyelid, by the “herniation” of the fat placed inside the orbit (adipose bag).

In addition, the decrease in the volume of fat in certain areas of the lower eyelid such as tear trough, associated with skin thinning, can lead to the formation of dark grooves (dark circles). The association of these factors gives the eyes a fatigued, swollen and aged appearance.

With blepharoplasty surgery, it is possible to harmonize and rejuvenate the eyes, preserving one’s look and giving the face a fresh, attractive glow, a relaxed face, perfectly masking minimal scarring.

Blepharoplasty rejuvenates the eyes and eyelids and improves, but does not completely eliminate, wrinkles and crow’s feet; the correct set of techniques aimed at limiting muscle action (botulin), moisturizing (hyaluronic acid) and stimulating skin regeneration (stem cells from adipose tissue or platelet growth factors) with surgical blepharoplasty allow the complete elimination of crow’s feet.

BLEPHAROPLASTY: WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE SURGERY

PREPARATION FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY

Before blepharoplasty surgery, all the blood and ECG tests listed and proposed during the first visit must be carried out. Numerous pre-operative images to the blepharoplasty intervention will be carried out for the planning of an increasingly personalized therapeutic path.

BLEPHAROPLASTY : MEDICAL SURGICAL EXAMINATION

The surgeon visits the patient highlighting the areas of skin surplus to be modeled and those in excess to be eliminated, always taking into account the best method of the blepharoplasty operation, to completely hide the scar inside the skin fold.

Before the blepharoplasty surgery, the surgeon verifies the degree of elasticity of the skin: based on the changes requested by the patient, in fact, he must evaluate the degree of skin support in order to explain in a completely transparent way to the patient what result can be obtained; in fact, by Dr. Mattia Colli, the patient is listened to with great attention to detail in order to develop a blepharoplasty operating program of the highest professionalism, where the characteristics of the desired result are indicated. The Surgeon in addition to explaining the surgery in great detail responds to all doubts and concerns expressed by the patient.

Even in patients whose skin presents with reduced elasticity, due to rapid weight loss or natural aging, the surgical results of blepharoplasty surgery are optimal, if the manual skill of the surgeon is able to implement different types of suture depending on the skin.

Where, however, the skin does not offer valid support, the surgeon will have to use additional blepharoplasty surgical techniques to achieve the desired result (for example, a sagging skin at the level of the upper eyelid with a sagging eyebrow will be difficult to correct only with blepharoplasty surgery, but will also require an eyebrow lift or a temporal facelift to traction and support the eyebrow).

Most often the patient presents a noticeable decrease in the volume of fat in certain sectors of the lower eyelid which, associated with skin thinning and the fall of the cheek, in its central portion, can determine the formation of furrows of dark color (dark circles). The association of these factors gives the face a drooping, tired and aged appearance.

Here is that to correct the defect, sometimes, in addition to blepharoplasty surgery, the surgeon needs the help of other surgical methods of blepharoplasty to restore traction and tone at the level of the cheek (lifting of the middle third) and give volume to the furrow of the dark circles (lipofilling or hyaluronic tear trough) ensuring a very natural, fresh and relaxed appearance of the face.

From Dr. Mattia the suture threads for blepharoplasty surgery are of the highest quality, with CE mark and the latest biomedical engineering; they provide silicone coatings to better maintain tension and ensure faster healing.

BLEPHAROPLASTY – HOSPITALIZATION OF THE PATIENT

The patient is hospitalized in the morning, fasting from midnight the night before. The pre-operative blepharoplasty program is reviewed again and validated a second time, as well as the clinical examinations (double check). The patient is prepared in his own room dedicated to him and when everything is ready he is transferred to the operating block.

BLEPHAROPLASTY – ANESTHESIA

Dr. Mattia Colli has decided to abandon general anesthesia with its dangers:  surgical interventions are performed with the most modern anesthesiological techniques of deep sedation (local anesthesia + intravenous anesthesia), so that fear and the sensation of pain are completely canceled while the unconscious is invaded by dreams and pleasant images.

Local anesthesia occurs by introducing anesthetic into the anatomical areas of the eye to be treated in order to effectively eliminate the sensation of pain. The insertion of this solution, called tumescent, also takes place with a vasoconstrictor (adrenaline) to avoid bleeding, because it reduces the blood supply in the area to be treated allowing the operating surgeon to work at his best and in a delicate way, managing to eliminate a greater amount of fat.

Another advantage is to have an immediate return to social life without having to endure classic situations of fatigue, dizziness and exhaustion typical of the disposal of general anesthesia drugs.

BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper or lower eyelid or on both (complete blepharoplasty).

The incision on the upper eyelid forms a kind of ellipse with its vertices at the near level of the inner and outer singing of the eye. The surgeon separates the skin tissue from that of the tarsus, eliminating excess portions. The suture is made in such a way as to make the scar minimal, which in most cases will be totally hidden inside the natural fold of the eyelid.

At the level of the lower eyelid the incision follows the eyelid profile, hidden just below the eyelashes and ends laterally near the external song inserting itself into a skin fold. The Surgeon, during the blepharoplasty surgery, separates the skin tissue from the muscular one, eliminating the excess portions and possibly also accesses the adipose bag to eliminate the excess. The suture is applied in such a way as to minimize scars and hide them in the natural folds of the skin.

Most often, the lower eyelid looks quite loose, not able to hold traction after eliminating excess skin. In this case the surgeon intervenes, during the blepharoplasty operation, also suspending a muscle flap so as to be able to give support to the lower eyelid and avoid what is called “extropion”, or that the eyelid is rotated outwards.

Dr. Mattia Colli does not use lasers for blepharoplasty, precisely because the laser has the advantage of immediately heating the tissue, therefore favoring less bruising, but has the great disadvantage of not allowing an accurate retraction and healing of the tissues according to the incision lines, dictated by the surgeon.

POST-OPERATIVE BLEPHAROPLASTY

At the end of the blepharoplasty surgery, the eyes will be lubricated with an eye drop containing also antibiotic as a preventive measure, all appropriate dressings and prescriptions will be provided.

It is advisable during the first hours of post-operative course, to keep ice packs with chamomile on top of sterile gauze, for at least 24h – 48h. It is advisable to sleep with two or three pillows under the head so that at night the inflammatory fluids do not stagnate at the level of the face thus avoiding that the eyes swell and impose more pressure on the sutures.

After removal of dressings it is normal to see the treated anatomical area swollen and edematous.

Blepharoplasty does not involve any type of pain in the post-operative period, even in patients with a low threshold. The discomfort created is due to the application of special patches that protect any excessive traction given by swelling; in fact, there is a very high variability in the edemigenous phase in the post-operative period: some patients do not swell at all, while others tend to present a greater swelling. This is not predictable before blepharoplasty surgery and the patches are applied for safety, a factor that is always the main element that Dr. Mattia Colli takes into account.

Work and social life can be resumed comfortably even after 24h.

BLEPHAROPLASTY – RESULT

The blepharoplasty surgery shows a high degree of satisfaction for the naturalness and harmony with which the look of the face rejuvenates assuming a fresh and clean image respecting its somatic characteristics

The patient who undergoes blepharoplasty surgery will benefit from the elimination of the imperfections complained of (sagging skin, adipose accumulation at the level of the bag, sinking of the eyes and excessive demarcation of the furrow of the dark circles) already in the first days after the blepharoplasty surgery. The swelling will disappear already after 24 hours after the blepharoplasty surgery and the thin and linear scar will continue to fade in its healing phase until it hides perfectly in the skin fold remaining totally invisible.

The result of the blepharoplasty surgery is permanent, as the reformation of the correct imperfections takes a very long time.

From Dr. Mattia Colli the results obtained after blepharoplasty reflect the realistic expectations of patients.

It is important to keep in mind that an economic quantification for this type of intervention is strongly discouraged: it is very likely that the technique used is the superficial one and that in the following years it will be necessary to re-intervene to give a harmonious and natural balance in the areas of the face where it has not previously intervened in an optimal way. The sum of these small interventions is much greater than a high-quality deep face lift that lasts over the years. The combination of multiple techniques in a single surgical session guarantees a certain economy of time, since there will be a single post-operative period of recovery.
