OTOPLASTY
FLAP EARS
OTOPLASTY
Ears are a fundamental part in a man’s face. Otoplasty is the surgical technique that corrects defects in the size of so-called “floppy ears,” i.e., with an overly large ear pinna. Otoplasty surgery affects adults and children, especially if they have asymmetries and defects already from birth.
Often, the defect of having floppy ears causes discomfort in a person’s life, compromising the quality of life.
Otoplasty surgery consists of shaping the excessive cartilage of the auricle, without removing or incising it, in order to achieve as natural a result as possible. Dr. Mattia Colli differentiates himself by using modern techniques and eliminating any risk.

OTOPLASTY – FLAP EARS
WHY CHOOSE DR. MATTIA COLLI
Dr. Mattia Colli is famous for surgical techniques related to the correction of ear defects. The surgeon evaluates the angulation of the ear, intervening directly on the shaping of the cartilage by folding. The patient is listened to so that all doubts are cleared, and the characteristics related to the final result are indicated. The surgeon then develops a personalized, patient-specific preoperative plan.
OTOPLASTY: PREPARATION FOR SURGERY
Before undergoing otoplasty surgery, the surgeon will prescribe blood tests and ECGs during the first visit. Custom-made bands and sheaths are structured to hold the ears following otoplasty surgery. The therapeutic path will be aimed at visualizing the angle of the two ears, so that they are symmetrical and harmonious with the rest of the face.
Before undergoing otoplasty surgery, all routine analyzes must be carried out to certify optimal health status. The pre-operative images will allow you to better refine the therapeutic path. It is the patient’s duty to report any therapies in progress, homeopathic and phytopathic treatments that could give rise to any allergies in the patient, due to the intake of antibiotics in the post-operative period.

Smokers are advised to stop smoking at least two weeks before the otoplasty surgery. Thorough washing of hair and cosmetics from the face is also recommended.
The most common malformation (protruding ears) is represented by the excessive prominence of the auricle and may be due to an excessive development of the concha (the central part of the pavilion) or by the lack of formation of some external folds, called helix and anthelix or, again, by the simultaneous presence of both defects.
Otoplasty can also be aimed at correcting excessively large auricles, regardless of their position, or even injured and traumatized (for example, the lobe torn by a torn earring is common in women). In addition, thanks to otoplasty surgery, “loop ears”, in which the upper part of the pavilion is folded down and forward, can be corrected; the “cupped ears”, usually very small and the “shell ears”, in which many cartilaginous folds are missing.
PHYSICIAN-SURGICAL EXAMINATION
During the first visit, the plastic surgeon carries out an accurate medical history highlighting the points to be corrected and taking into account the shape of the ear and the angle, in order to intervene in the right places and achieve results that are natural and as close as possible to the patient’s expectations. It is also the surgeon’s job to answer questions submitted to him or her by patients.
